EL Putnam will be presenting on performance art in Northern Ireland from 1998 to 2018, along with Fergus Byrne (Ireland) and André Stitt (Wales) as part of the International Conference: Art Action 1998 - 2018, hosted by RiAP. These presentations will be streamed live through the RiAP Facebook page.

In 1998, Le Lieu, centre en art actuel spearheaded a historic international gethering in Quebec City that aimed to look back on performative and action art practices covering the period from 1958 to 1998. The gathering culminated in the release of a bilingual publication on the subject that was later published in Spanish by the Institute Valencia d'Art Modern (IVAM). It is now considered an essential reference in the fields of performance art and action art.

Today, 20 years later, in the same spirit and in conjunction with the events's 20th edition RiAP is presenting a second event that aims to look back on international practices covering the period from 1998 to 2018, bringing together important figures who have been involved with developing these specific orientations on a practical and/or theoretical level.

RiAP: Art action 1998-2018 will include four exhibitions of archival material and nearly twenty days of conferences featuring over fifty expert collaborators who will present their findings on the current state of performance art and action art in each of their respective regions. Four evenings of performance, each one presenting a selection of artists of diverse geographical origins, will bring praxis to the event, complementing the conferences and exhibitions.

With its program divided according to four geographical areas, RiAP: Art action 1998-2018 will highlight the emergence, development and/or evolution of performative practices within the various regions covered by the event and, more specifically, examine how these findings relate to those of the previous gathering.
