Performing in Public: the challenge of working outside the gallery
Mobius will also host a panel discussion with artists both from Boston and from Bbeyond of Belfast, N. Ireland, on performing in public in our respective countries, on Monday, September 24 at 7pm. It will take place at Assemblage, the FPAC Space at the Envoy, 70A Sleeper Street, Fort Point, Boston. Admittance is free.
We will discuss performing in public contexts, where audiences that encounters the work haven’t necessarily come specifically to see it, and generally they are on their way to something else. As visiting artists to each other’s countries, we have the added challenge of making work within a context that is not our own culture. How do we find something that is relevant in another community? What kinds of research do we do? What are the bridges we try to create?
This panel discussion follows a weekend of performance art on The Rose Kennedy Greenway. It is the second part of an exchange between Mobius and Bbeyond, exploring Boston and Belfast’s relationship as sister cities, and providing opportunities for artists working at the helm of diverse experimental practices in live performance to learn from each other, share audiences, and work across national and cultural contexts, while building connections through the creation of new works.
