Kaohsiung Feb. 16 one plus one

After one day back in Taipei, Min-Chi and I go to Kaohsiung to visit her family for New Year. I mean, family, as in, extended - many cousins aunts and uncles, who, despite language separation from me, are all very nice and accepting of me. It is a moveable feast, from one relative's home to another over the course of days. "Eat until we puke" as Min-Chi says. While it is of course very noisy and busy, it is also wonderful - like a pagent crossing generations in front of my eyes, and i witnessing only the tip, as much as is universal or translated for me by Min-Chi. We stay in third floor of her parents home, her brother staying with us. Min-Chi has brought a woodboard with her to carve which she started while she was in Bali, while i was away from Taipei. It is a remarkable piece of visual journalism, depicting three scenes from experiences she had there. I think, she should use these carvings to print from, and make some sort of limted edition portfolio/book  - of her experiences in extreme hiking and exploratory situations - as her depictions are often as a journal - at the same time, having this dream-like quality- which i think, is part of how she experiences things - . We talk a little today about performances art, and forms - . and, the frequent need or request - to define what performance art is - and how best to address the questions - and to what extent explanation can be accurate - i think, we both feel it is important to TRY- while maybe accepting it as impossible, really - to make some open form clear ....

So, ... Mickey (Min-Chi) woke up today and her hair was sticking out all funny from the side of her head. I suggested it was because her hair was still wet when we went to bed, and her hair had been shaped by the factors of that ... i think i said, it was like a sculpture  -she laughed, and said yes ....  and she suggests we do this on purpose and document it ... i think, it is a good idea, art from life and performing as secondary effect, the act of which is appreciation of it, and observance of it ... so, i think we will make a practice - i guess we must choose times and a frame to do it properly - and go to bed with wet hair - get up, observe results, document, perhaps comment and laugh too - as it is a fun and funny thing to see - . I think once Mickey said we could make art from life - . It happens very naturally with her i think, it is just a matter of being observant to what is there and ready to jump on creative joy of living - and, letting formal strictures .... not define how creation is "captured."  I am excited to go to bed with wet hair. Thank you, Mickey.
