In keeping with my decided project to publish in any way available my interesections with a few generators who have generally now been labeled with the title of "Oneye", i continue to do so, though this is not a typical program note or analysis of the kind i have so far found and tightened and put forward. This is an answer to a request, a speculation on an aritst who may or may not be an actual "Oneye" as well as an explanation of some of my involvement, and how i came to become a sort of expert or in demand commentator on the topic while having no expertise other that the qualifications of my own artwork.
A short time ago, i was contacted by a free lance arts event orgqanizer, who's name i recognized but did not know from where, and was asked to contribute to some peripheral documentation and writing on the topic of the work of Jacob Trask. Now in my recent intersections with those closing in on current trend and topics in the hot(er) high art debates, which often lick on the skins of their subjects, but when they take a bite will spit them out, so, nort knowing shoujld i give the name the time to sink into my mind, or place up before me the shield i had when living in New York, for instance, and still found of use on occasion, to fend off vebal vaporous and liquid spills of acid that may find your path and wait there for you, so, the shield was required, at least, in my neighborhood in Brooklyn ... and so it is or seems in my present state of mind, that i should always beware of something, anything. But this person persisted, and regardless did i recognize the name or not, i found the inquiry to me a little complimentary, and the subject curious. The first question i had, which was an assumption the art event organizer held without caution or question, was whether Jacob Trask was in fact a "Oneye" artist at all. This of course begs distinctions that remain to be clarified or defined, and is escecially difficult a thing as all relating to "Oneye" tends to resist category and definition, and hence the historical and cultural invisibility that has keep the presence obscured for perhaps thousand of years, we do not really know at this early time. Some illness maybe generates something that seems obscure or self absorbing, and this maybe mimics through sickness the excessive focus of the second life of those who are "Oneye." Illness it has been determined, and maybe this is one of the few determinations thus far that defines, is not the producer of a "Oneye." Illness can mimic, but in the artist who is truely one of these, the artistry and tendencies of focus and second life may generate an illness but illness is not the cause. Pwerhaps there will be a stream of mock "Oneye" that in the body pertaining to the topic overall with have its own place and heading. So, maybe the problem for this identification, as it is something that can ber identified, is still not so easy, as an illness may form as resulting from being "Oneye." Now then in late analysis, who is to say which came first? We have only the product then of this life as evidence. Jacob Trask seems to have suffered from various nervious ticks and nods, and conditions that were directly connected to the product of his second life, ; if indeed, he was in and had a second life at all. It would seem he might have, but, the fact of product would make it seem so, product outside the stream of his functional life- . Product - was inserparable from his nerviousness - it seems possible, the cration of the second life forced him to live the products manifestation. The facial movments and twitching of his cheeks, as documented by various media adds on early television - before people were disgusted with behavior of this kind, when it weas still facinating a little bit - where he would sell powdered milk making his purchase in the ad at a store, his face contorting uncontrolably, and then when he returned to the store to attest to the curative powers of the powdered milk, seemingly not twitching at all - of course, he had transfered thev twitch to another part of his body - and, it is this tiny and money making skill/fact that may be the tip of the iceberg in regards to the "Oneye" abilities of this man, that he had solidified a continuous movement of his body through all periods of his waking life so as to be continuously rippling with movement and wave transfers, from one location on his self to another, and back again. And, it was also this moevment that he documented at first in the form of textbook-like handbooks, and then as instructions, and then as poems that would bring a ripple or wave of body movment to the reader, and then, and graphic paper and wire constructions that could move activity of the world at any time place or location in the world, an office, a street corner, theatre stage or home living room into a convolusion of muscle undulation and continuous transitional effects. On the strength of this lies the intention to include Jacob Trask in the "Oneye" ordering, and it may be honest wenough. Butg, i would only caution those who wish to rush to take advantage and research this little bit dellicate and sometimes illusive topic. It is not always so clear for reasons already given. And, I am no expert. I have come to be recognized for my commentaries on the topic, but all i have in a personal experience through my own artistry. My compulsive nature have drawn me to this work by others, asnd perhaps i vainly imagine that i too am a "oneye" though it is not something i like to think about, and i think if others around me thought i might be, knowing what i know of rthe
Oneye" even a little bit, they would be horrified and flee from me forever. Yes, it is vain, to think somehow like you are a different animal, it is attractive. But few of us really are so different. It is why "Oneye" has been so rare and also, nature perhaps has protected them by making thme invisible as to their second life. I can not really say if Jacob Trask belongs to that group. I think for my own researches, i will take thing a bit slowly, and not add on beyond my present commitments, which are to write on the small group of "Oneye" already known, and to deal with commentary and simple analysis when asked to, regard production and research of their product. I have sent these comments on to a few people i know who have committed some time to the topic, as well as my familiarly named art event organizer, and say, yes you may use any part of these comments for your compilation of documentation and notes for your pet project on Jacob Trask. But i can not really sauy anything definitive about him or his product, as i just do not know, and could only commit myself for some future time to make a comment in depth, as i am absorbed with what i must do now regard the "Oneye" and upcoming presentations. I hope this has answered something that at the beginning might have been posed. - notes for potential use, by Lewis Gesner
