THE CHOREOGRAPHY PROJECT TWENTY TEN

DATE OF EVENT: Friday, 20 August @ 7 p.m. ; Saturday, 21 August @ 7 p.m.

The Choreography Project is a summer show of new dance pieces and works-in-progress.  The project is a collaborative effort by a group of professional and aspiring professional dancers, produced by D.I.R.T.T Productions (Dance Integrated with Real-Time Technology) in cooperation with the Cape Cod Dance Center and Studio 878, which will both be hosting the event.  This year's performances will be held in Cataumet at Cape Cod Dance Center (1340 Country Road Falmouth) on Friday, August 20th at 7 PM and in Chatham at Studio 878 (878 Main Street Chatham) on Saturday, August 21st at 7 PM. Performances are open to the public, no reservations required. A donation on a sliding scale, starting at $5 per person, is suggested.

This community-based event is designed to give the audience a more interactive experience by inviting audience members to share critical comments and personal perspectives with the dancers and choreographers after the show. The audience also has a hand in deciding the order in which the pieces are seen.  The performance incorporates a variety of dance styles, such as jazz, modern, contemporary dance, neoclassical, Butoh and more.

The project was designed to provide dancers who summer on the Cape an opportunity to stay engaged in their art and connect with other dancers.  Among the participants in this year's project is Eveline Carle, who currently owns and operates the Cape Cod Dance Center.  Eveline has been coordinating the project since 2007 with colleague and friend Antonia Stephens, co-director (along with Naomi Turner) of the Chatham-based TIDES Dance Company, who will also be creating work for the performance. The concert will also showcase creative work by choreographers Leda Muhana (Brazil), Jennifer Hicks (Boston/Chatham), JC Stahl (Yarmouth), Chris Phillips (Chatham); Meghan Carmichael (Sandwich) and many more.
