Dancing the Beast: A Gathering of Dancers, Heroes & Other Beautiful Monsters

Dancing The Beast: A Gathering of Dancers, Heroes & Other Beautiful Monsters

A woman trapped on a leash, a character study of a house cat, acrobatics, magic, death by childbirth or arrow, suicide by ritual blood-letting, a heroine transformed from newborn to goose to warrior to blood-dragon, animals both elegant & ridiculous, humans both cruel & brave.

Join the And So No Sin Performance Troupe for an evening of dark faerie tales, graceful beasts and dance both complex and comedic. This is dance, of course, And So No Sin style: combat-fueled, theatrical, feminist, unsettling & occasionally downright slapstick. In a twelve year art-making history with over 50 original works created and performed, this December is the premiere of artist Alisia L. L. Waller's first full evening choreographic event. Inspired and supported by a 2008 Massachusetts Cultural Council Choreographer's Fellowship Ms. Waller, Director of The And So No Sin Performance Troupe is setting aside the interactive performance art, video, text work and installation art that usually punctuate her shows to embrace expression solely through dance. With only a stage, minimal costumes & original, live accompaniment And So No Sin is creating a world of magic, violence, humor, monsters, heroines, ritual and, most importantly, dance.

"Alisia Waller and her And So No Sin Performance Troupe always put on
fun, inventive shows, so we’re especially excited to see them trade in
their usual interactive multimedia program for something a little more
(gasp!) traditional. Worry not: the all-dance show won’t be boring.
“Dancing the Beast: A Gathering of Dancers, Heroes & Other Beautiful
Monsters" promises, among other things, “suicide by ritual
bloodletting” and “a character study of a house cat.” We can’t wait to
see what that means, and how it’s legal.
