Howard Stelzer @ Mobius is the first of a series of occasional events curated by Mobius Artist James Coleman in which a local, long term practitioner in experimental music is provided with an evening residency to present the current state of his or her practice. A particular emphasis will be placed on artists who transform non-musical objects into instruments for sonic art. This idea is exemplified by Howard Stelzer, whose work exploits the unique sonic and physical qualities inherent to cassette tape and tape players, such as gritty amplified hiss, the squeal and hum of taxed motors, plastic clatter, and play speed altered by pressure from fingers applied to the tapes' reels.

The evening at Mobius will consist of two sets. The first will feature Skeletons Out (Stelzer's duo with Jay Sullivan) and Jason Lescalleet. This will be followed by a solo tape composition performed by Stelzer.
