BOSTON, MA – A collaboration of Boston artists from the Berwick Research Institute, Mobius, and The Present Tense have organized the project People In Space to utilize the context of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo as a platform for contemporary art, research, and communication. Upon returning to the states their results will be formally exhibited as video, photography, writing, and other documentation at the Mobius Gallery in South Boston, October 8th - 12th. An opening reception Friday October 8th, will also host talks given by the artists. By creatively engaging with the people and spaces that define the World Expo, their upcoming exhibition will be an artistic survey of one of the most compelling reoccurring events in modern history.

As an American group attending the Expo, People In Space has discovered how little American's know about the event. Their upcoming exhibition at Mobius will allow Americans the opportunity to learn from and contribute to the World Expo while interacting with the project's members and installation. Visitors will get to see documentation, artifacts, and reflections recontextualized from the group's creative processes utilized in Shanghai. They will behold the phenomenal scale and extraordinary novelty that is the Expo, and witness the propaganda, surrounding politics, and other qualities that has helped shape it. The People In Space project will bring the 2010 Shanghai World Expo to Boston and create unique exposure to foster greater awareness and insight around this historic international event.
