The project was designed to comment and contrast upon two municipal objectives: one, considering the City of Zadar's speculations about restoring its channels around its walled, old city; and secondly, Mobius' proximity at the time to the Fort Point Channel, and its coincidence with the planning process and document that resulted in the City's Watersheet Activation Plan. Channels elicit and evoke numerous meanings and interpretations. The site-specific nature of the project brought all of the works into a public arena that sparked voluble discussions and results.
Digging the Channel/Mediating the Channel was funded with support from the Trust for Mutual Understanding and the Elizabeth Firestone Graham Foundation.
