
Liz Roncka is a performing artist working in the genres of movement improvisation and contemporary dance. She is Artistic Director of the lizroncka/Real-Time Performance Project, a multi-disciplinary artists’ collaborative committed to the ongoing development and performance of improvisational work, and an accomplished solo artist and teacher whose work has been presented across the United States and internationally in France, and Hungary since 1991. Currently, Liz is an ensemble member of the Paris-based improvisation collective Emma Jupe, a founding member of the international improvisation collaborative Sounds and Signs, and a member of the Boston-based Mobius Artists’ Group. Liz was a core member of the Dance Collective of Boston from 1998-2005 serving as Associate Artistic Director in 2004, and a member of the contemporary dance company Falling Flight Project from 2007-2009. In 2002 she received a grant from Artslink to develop and perform original work in Budapest, Hungary. Since then she has presented work at a range of prominent venues including the Dance Theater Workshop, Center for Performance Research, Five Myles, and Spoke the Hub in New York City, Canal Danse in Paris, the Ludwig Museum and MU Szinhaz in Budapest, and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston University, the Boston Center for the Arts, and the New England Conservatory in Boston. She is regularly invited to contribute work to cutting-edge experimental performance series including Critical Moves, Zeroplan, the national SWAN Day Series, and Bare Bones Butoh.
Liz has been dancing since the age of six and at sixteen began training and performing exclusively in classical ballet at the School of the New Bedford Ballet. Later, as a college student at Boston University, Liz expanded her training to include modern dance and contemporary improvisation while studying under Micki Taylor-Pinney, Ann Allen, Ramelle Adams, and Margot Parsons. In 1999 she continued intensive study in movement improvisation with Chris Aiken and Andrew Harwood and later under Julyen Hamilton, Jennifer Monson, Kirstie Simson, and Debra Bluth, among others. In addition to her solo work, Liz has performed under the direction of Emily Beattie, Debra Bluth, Alissa Cardone, Sean Curran, Sara June, Andrew Harwood, Michael Jahoda/White Box Project, Dawn Kramer, Light Motion, Karen Murphy-Fitch and Micki Taylor-Pinney.
