Jeff Huckleberry

Jeff Huckleberry Jeff has been performing art for the last 30 years, both nationally and internationally. He enjoys the bicycle, the hammer, the saw, the wood, his wife and son, his family, his friends, his work. (…except sometimes he doesn’t enjoy these things as much; it depends.) He is the son and grandson of far more practical people, which he tries to express in his art. His mother thinks it is time to stop getting naked in front of people and privately he thinks she is probably right; and something about death.

Jeff (me) admits to having some amount of professional ambition; that at some point his work could hang out in the same room as some really good art. To a certain extent that has happened, in one particular context, but it hasn’t really happened in another. Time will tell. In addition, he hopes that he will someday, after years and years of work, consider himself and be considered by others to be a good teacher; that some of his students will still call him or email him or ©Facebook him to see how everything is going, and they will connect whenever he performs in their town, or they perform in his. He hopes that they genuinely like each other (even if it takes a bit of time getting used to each other), and they forgive his various and numerous faults.

Awards
Jeff doesn’t think he has received any awards. Yet. However, he is watching his mailbox/inbox (you CAN email him), eagerly awaiting any awards anyone wants to send his way.

Travel/work

Jeff has been very lucky lately and has been able to travel quite a bit to perform. In the last few years he has worked in France, Germany, Poland, Scotland, China, and Canada, in addition to festivals and events here in the US: Boston, NYC, Chicago and Los Angeles. In addition, he is involved in a publishing project, a peer-reviewed journal on Performance called TotalArtJournal.com which he co-founded with a good friend and SMFA alum, Natalie Loveless, who is about 1000 times more badass than he is.

Education

Jeff received his BFE (1999) and MFA (2004) from the Museum School. (If you think about it, and if you knew anything about his HISTORY WITH SCHOOL, you would know that’s a pretty righteous performance in itself).
